I’ve heard a lot of companies have blogs. Should I look into something like that?
I think there’s a bit of a misconception out there that every business should be blogging. I disagree with this, but I think that every business should be aware of what bloggers are saying about them. This can be easily done by searching for your business’ name with Google Blog Search (http://blogsearch.google.com/). You should do this regularly, and as you see bloggers writing about your business, you can respond either via email, or blog comments.
Not only does this let you collect additional feedback on your business, it also is an excellent way to provide customer service to your current and potential customers. Bloggers frequently blog about companies, but on average, most companies do not respond and try to engage these bloggers. The ones that do usually draw praise from bloggers, and can quickly develop a reputation for responding to customers online.
And as you spend more time monitoring and responding to bloggers, it will likely make you more comfortable with the idea of starting your own blog. Then if you do, the bloggers that you have already been corresponding with will likely become your blog’s first readers!
